Peter and John have been arrested for preaching (in Acts 4) that Jesus has risen from the dead and that “there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” (vs. 12) But the religious leaders can’t indict or hold them: “So they called them and charged them not to speak or teach at all in the name of Jesus.” (vs. 18)
Good luck with that! As the disciples said, “… we cannot but speak of what we have seen and heard.” (vs. 20)
Peter and John return to their friends, report what has happened, then:
…they lifted their voices together to God and said, “Sovereign Lord, who made the heaven and the earth and the sea and everything in them…. grant to your servants to continue to speak your word with all boldness…” vs. 24b, 29b
I love that prayer! They call upon the God who created the Universe to give them boldness to speak the word, to preach the Gospel.
We don’t speak the Gospel too much today – at least not we regular church-goers. Maybe we need boldness to do so.
Evangelism is no small, unimportant task. So I need great strength, wisdom, and boldness to tell others about Jesus. The good news is that God can give me all I need to share the Gospel.
Because, after all, he did create EVERYTHING!! No job is too small, especially the job of giving me boldness to tell others about Jesus.
Same goes for you who read this blog!! Comments??
Dear Lord: Thank you that you can empower and embolden me to share the Gospel. Please help me to do so! ASAP! Amen
