Well, time for another of my favorite passages today:
See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.
Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. All who have this hope in him purify themselves, just as he is pure. 1 John 3: 1-3 NIV
I just love this phrase: “And that is what we are!”
And that is what we ARE!
We are children of God! Purchased by the blood of our brother, redeemed into His family – no longer slaves to sin, but sons and daughters of the Almighty!
And because we are children now, we will be purified tomorrow.
When we see Him, we shall become like Him!
Our burdensome sins – seen and unknown – will melt away at His glance, our bodies transformed in the “twinkling of an eye.”
That is what we WILL BE!
And in between, those of us who have the hope of an eternity with Jesus will be purified. Repentant step by repentant step, we fitfully and achingly move closer and closer to Jesus. We grow in knowledge, obedience, intimacy.
We grow in the family resemblance, becoming slightly more pure day by day, our eyes fastened upon the perfect purity of our Lord.
That is what we ARE BECOMING!
Thank you, Jesus, for making us yours now and forever through the Cross.
