Day 225 – Riches Beyond Compare!

As I move into the epistles, it’s hard to find and blog on new things, because the passages with which I’m familiar have so ministered to me.

It’s difficult not to stop and pay homage to these passages!

So here’s another one:

Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God!
How unsearchable his judgments,
and his paths beyond tracing out!
“Who has known the mind of the Lord?
Or who has been his counselor?”
“Who has ever given to God,
that God should repay them?”
For from him and through him and for him are all things.
To him be the glory forever! Amen. Romans 11: 33-36 NIV

I LOVE this passage!!

My favorite part is the last half, which says, in effect, that we can’t negotiate with God:

  • We can’t do good works and expect heaven in return.
  • We can’t be good Christians and expect blessings in return.
  • We can’t pray good prayers and expect answers in return.

Of course we can’t negotiate with God. As if He needed anything from us! Everything comes from Him. As if we could control Him with our efforts!

So our salvation cannot possibly come from us.

And because all things (all good – though sometimes hard – things) are from Him, He will give us exactly what we need. Not necessarily what we want. He’s the perfect counselor with judgments no one can question.

He’s God. And we’re not.

So Paul exults in the riches of God’s wisdom, knowledge, judgments, and paths.

Amen!
