Oh, do I LOVE Romans 8: 18-39. Where do I begin to share the benefits God has given me through this passage?
What a wonderful reminder of the now and the not yet. We suffer. We long. We fight the sin that remains.
… but one day!
One day all that was lost at the fall shall be reinstated and more in the new heavens and earth. We will receive our perfect bodies. And all of nature will stop groaning along with us.
The best: we will spend eternity gazing on Jesus’ face in worship!!
But meantime, we deal with the now.
Three scriptures have so ministered to me as I consider my struggles with my sin and in this difficult life:
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. Romans 8: 28 NIV
He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? Romans 8: 32
No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. Romans 8: 37
- God allows all things in each of our lives for our good, that we may know and serve Him better.
- God gives us all things as gifts, borne with the same love that sent Jesus to the Cross.
- God makes us more than conqueror in all these things.
What ARE all these things?
Charges (accusations), trouble, hardship, persecution, famine, nakedness, danger, sword, even death. Romans 8: 33-36
Yep, all these really hard things in this not-yet-perfect earth are for our good – our spiritual maturity – and are good gifts given with the love that sent Jesus to the Cross. And God promises that we will more than conquer in all these things.
We WILL get through. We WILL grow spiritually. And as we grow, we will MORE AND MORE see God’s gracious love in all things.
At least that’s been my experience.
Amen and Amen.
